GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The State Auditor's Office, a legislative agency that serves as the independent auditor for Texas state government, is seeking a qualified individual to intern in a temporary position from June to August 2025.  Under the supervision of senior team members, an intern performs work that introduces the student to entry level accounting work. Detailed instructions regarding specific duties are provided at the beginning of the assignment. Work is closely supervised and reviewed for accuracy throughout the internship. All SAO staff work in our office in downtown Austin.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
  • Assist with reviewing and processing employee expense vouchers, ensuring compliance with office policies and procedures and required documentation.
  • Assist with processing invoices, tracking payments, and following up on outstanding request.
  • Assist with managing communications with vendors and staff through email, responding to inquiries, and providing requested information.  Analyzing and seeking solutions for storing the emails.
  • Assist with setting up a vendor system for storing related documents such as preference of communications with vendor, etc.
  • Assists in the updating of policies and procedures, forms and other documentation.  Analyzing and seeking solutions for filing and storing the information.
  • Assist in preparing training materials or presentations.
  • Assist with inventory management which include restocking office supplies, placing orders, and organizing supply areas.
  • Support the business services team in general office duties such as copies, scanning, and organizing electronic files.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with emphasis in accounting or business management or related field (copy of transcript required).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous experience in an accounting or office environment role is a plus but not required.
