GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The State Auditor’s Office, a legislative agency that serves as the independent auditor for Texas state government, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our team from June to August 2025, focusing on data analysis, artificial intelligence (AI), and the application of large language models (LLMs). The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to contribute to an innovative AI-driven solution.This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects while developing essential skills in data analysis and government auditing. Detailed instructions regarding specific duties are provided at the beginning of the assignment. Work is closely supervised and reviewed for accuracy throughout the internship.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
- Apply AI models, including large language models, to automate tasks, enhance data interpretation, and generate insights.
- Communicate complex data patterns and findings to non-technical audiences through clear reports, visualizations, and presentations.
- Monitor and implement data quality standards and procedures.
- Able to inform others on advancements in AI and data analytics.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Experience and EducationMust be currently enrolled in one of the following: (1) undergraduate degree program in data science, business analytics, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, accounting, finance, mathematics, statistics, economics, or related field; OR (2) graduate degree program in data science, business analytics, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, accounting, finance, mathematics, statistics, economics, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework or prior experience in data analysis, AI, or related fields.
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and tools (e.g., CoPilot, ChatGPT).
- Hands-on experience with advanced AI tools and large language models.
- Exposure to real-world data challenges in a collaborative environment.
- Opportunities to develop technical and soft skills for a career in data analytics and AI.
- Familiarity with AI concepts, natural language processing, and large language models.
- Understanding of data modeling, mining, and segmentation techniques.
- Awareness of data security and confidentiality standards.
- Competence in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
- To identify and resolve complex data issues independently.
- To synthesize large datasets into actionable insights.
- To adapt to emerging technologies and analytical methodologies.
